APOCOLYMPICS: Ledecky Ascendent

Last time when Phelps swore he was retiring the second time, it seemed as if the pool was destined to be a drag without him.

Except Katie Ledecky came out of nowhere, pummeled a world record, and snagged a gold medal in her midteens.

Part of the fun of the Olympics is that regular looking people with regular names get to make it big, and Ledecky is already a Rio gold medalist with a few more races to go. Her time was so solid in that last race, she could’ve gone and made a sandwich and then ate it by the time the rest caught up.
